Subject: [VA-bird] Red-headed Woodpecker
Watching at least three adult red-headed woodpeckers and a few juveniles in
the shallow woods behind the playground at Algonkian Regional Park in
Sterling. The bold coloring of these birds is quite beautiful against the
backdrop of clear blue sky. They’re offering excellent close-up views from
exposed perches right near the fence separating the playground from the
golf course. Flight pattern quite different from other woodpeckers!
Nuthatches galore and even a brown creeper as well.
