Subject: [CT Birds] 1/4/19 - Branford, Lake Saltonstall -- RED-NECKED GREBE
This morning Steve Bird and I took a 4 mile walk around Lake
Saltonstall. At the north end of lake was a mixed flock of ducks
including Hooded Mergansers, Gadwalls, female Scaup, and a few others.
Further down along the lake trail (about half way between the north end
and the fishing docks) there was a Red-necked Grebe out in the middle of
the late (by itself). Other notable sightings included 5+ Field
Sparrows in the power line trail and vocalizing Carolina and Winter
Wrens.

A Regional Water Authority permit is required to access this property.

The upper parking lot on Hosley Avenue (400 Hosley) is closed as there
is a mountain of stone being stored there for the construction project
on nearby Snake Hill. A sign says "Construction Area" keep out. FYI.
