Timberline Sparrow appears to be a rare to very rare migrant through the
Trans-Pecos and probably the western Hill Country and South Texas
Brushlands. The easternmost specimen is from Irion County. They may
winter in very small numbers, but there is no documentation of that.
Identification is difficult and may not be possible in most cases because
of the overlap in character between nominate Brewer's and Timberline
Sparrows. I have seen birds that favor Timberline Sparrows, but there is no
way to be sure without a specimen.
