Subject: [VA-bird] Riverbend Park Bird Walk 12/30/2018
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the regularly scheduled Sunday morning Great Falls Bird Walk was again held at Fairfax County's Riverbend Park, with its diverse habitats and extensive network of trails. The walk -- which included the Conn's Farm Meadow and portions of the Hollow, Madison's Escape, and Potomac Heritage Trails -- identified approximately 25 species and included 10 participants. Particularly worthy of mention was the "Cardinal Tree" observed at the meadow -- a Tulip Popular, replete with Northern Cardinals (and a few Eastern Bluebirds), all facing east and basking in the early morning sunglow. A fine salute to 2018.
This walk meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine; it does not take place, though, during electrical storms, heavy snows, or when the trails are icy. Stay tuned to this listserve for next weekend's meetup announcement. All those with an interest in the natural world - beginning and experienced birders alike - please join us.
