Subject: [texbirds] Bolivar Peninsula CBC preliminary results or Owl-la-paloza!
The Bolivar Peninsula CBC was held today and in spite of the high winds
during daylight hours we had a good preliminary count of 168 species.

Some of the great birds reported today where:

Sandhill Crane
Pomarine Jaeger
White-winged Scoter
Cackling Goose
Canada Goose
Black Tern
Tennessee Warbler
Swainson's Hawk
Least Flycatcher

For me the highlight was a record number of owls we found owling last
night. From 3 am to 6:30 am we recorded an astounding 54, yes that
FIFTY-FOUR Barn owls. We also recorded 5 Short-eared Owls and a single
unidentified owl. We covered 32 miles and had 60 owls total for .53 owls
per mile!
