This has been thoroughly discussed in the past in Texbirds. Tony believes all Tropicals and Northerns are impure in Texas. I think he thought Tropicals in the Valley were 90 or 95 percent pure, their purity declining as you moved north to the King Ranch and hill Country. Northerns likewise were not pure at the Sabine, being 95% and declining as you moved south. So call a parula what you will in Texas.
Too much is made over this in my opinion. The bird at E L Moore is clearly a Tropical, yes it may have some northern genes. Many of us have Neanderthal genes but nobody is trying to call us that, well ???
I think Tony’s paper was published. It was primarily based on song and not genetics.
Tony is normally responsive to email but a very busy man.

Subject: [texbirds] RFI Tony Gallucci Tropical Parula ID specialist
Am seeking tropical Parula Vs Hybrid ID advice. I see from his blog page that Tony Gallucci has done a lot of work in this area. I have not received a response to my email to him from Tuesday. Offline can someone please share a phone number and better email for Tony to address below? Also if s texbirder knows a knowledgeable Tropical vs Hybrid Parula person instead can they also send me a phone number and email.
Hoping to have them review Dominic’s E L Moore photo from Monday. December 17
