Late yesterday I found a merlin in Duke Forest on Route 751 in Durham. I watched the bird for some time, then encountered it again along a different trail. The bird was very approachable. I'm hoping it sticks around for a while.
Other highlights for me yesterday were a blue-headed (solitary) vireo, my FOS fox sparrow, and a number of pine siskins and brown creepers, all at Sandy Creek city park in Durham.
