Subject: [MASSBIRD] Arnold Arboretum Purple Finches
Hello Massbirders:
The flock of Purple Finches that has been hanging out at the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain was present today, still at the Seven Son Flower trees near the top of Bussey Hill. There were six female/imm. finches eating the remaining fruit on the trees, and I saw a male Purple Finch down near the wetlands on the north side of the hill. There isn't much fruit left on those trees, but perhaps they are finding food elsewhere at the Arb. It's a great chance to get extremely close looks at the birds. Also today there were:- 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches, along the Conifer Trail.- 21 Dark-eyed Juncos, in same spot along Conifer Trail.- 5 White-throated Sparrows, near top of Bussey Hill- 1 Cooper's Hawk, circling high above hill- 4 Bl-capped Chickadees, Conifer Trail
