*SAS Minto-Brown Island Park Field Trip Summary*

*Sunday, November 4, 2018*

On Sunday, Fred, Kay and Tim were joined by 11 other birdwatchers for the
Salem Audubon field trip. They walked about four (4) miles with
temperatures between 55 degrees and 63 degrees. It was a little windy at
times. The bird activity was good overall with a total of 45 species
identified (seen and/or heard).

The highlights were as follows:

· They saw a *White-throated Sparrow* during the walk. In total,
there were seven (7) sparrow species including *Fox Sparrow* (6) and
Sparrow* (30);

· There were two *Wood Ducks* observed;

· It was a three woodpecker day as they observed the *Downy
Woodpecker, Red-breasted Sapsucker and Northern Flicker*;

· The bird of the day was the *Cackling Goose *with 200. They also
saw 50 Dusky *Canada Geese*;

· The *House Finches* made their presence known with 23 finches
counted. This is the greatest number of house finches observed in some

· Another higher count than normal was the 20 *Lesser Goldfinches*
that were observed;

· Other observations included a *Belted Kingfisher* and a *Western

be at Ankeny NWR on *Wednesday, November 14th at 8:00 a.m*. Meet at the
