Subject: [CT Birds] raptors at Hammonasset
Spent a couple hours at Hammonasset State Park this afternoon. Raptors were
the highlight: Peregrine Falcon drank from puddle in lawn at West End of
park, female Northern Harrier soared over Meigs Pt. marshes, juvenile
Cooper's Hawk perched on nest box in marsh and later on fence post at
entrance to Willard's Island, Merlin repeatedly strafed flock of 200+
Starlings near Middle Beach parking lot while the Starlings performed
amazing aerial formations. Ended our visit back at the West End and found
the Peregrine again on the ground drinking from a puddle, this time in the
parking lot across from Chase's Pond. Also 3 Horned Larks in lawn at West
End. Three Great Egrets, an E. Phoebe, several WT Sparrows, lots of YR
