On the Dutton Hill barren yesterday, I watched an immature Northern Shrike capture, kill (by banging it against a branch) and stash a Golden-crowned Kinglet. A sobering display. Those masked bandits seem well dressed for the part. Also, a couple Lincoln's Sparrows in amongst their family group.

On the Mayall Road fields there were at least three clear Cackling Geese among the ~800 or so Canadas. Also, 2 Sandhill Cranes, ~ 20 American Pipits, ~35 Horned Larks, and a Lapland Longspur.

Bill Hancock,
Gray
