Subject: IBET Waukegan Beach, Illinois Beach & Techny North Monday 10-22-18
Hello Bird People,

Did the 1st few places with Bob Erickson & Techny North by myself.

Waukegan Beach (7:15-8:30 a.m.)

Canada Geese (11 in the inlet)
G.W. Teal (2 in the inlet)
Mallard (4 fly-bys)
Redhead (36 in the lake)
Sharp Shinned Hawk (1 fly-by)
Merlin (1 flying up & down the beach & swales)
Dunlin (1 on the pier & 3 on the beach)
Sanderling (2 seen by Bob E being chased by the Merlin but they got away)
Ring Billed (38) & Herring (10) Gulls
SNOW BUNTING (2 on the beach, a year bird for me)
Goldfinch (a few)
(Also saw a Starling on Sea Horse Dr & 15 Pigeons by the buildings
behind the beach lot)

Seen on Pershing north of the beach were 2 Eastern Bluebirds.

Illinois Beach North Unit Hawk Watch (9:30-11 a.m.)

Didn't stay long but saw Sharp Shinned Hawks, a Cooper's Hawk, Red
Tailed Hawks & 1 Merlin.
Still had a few Chimney Swifts, many Goldfinch & 1 Tree Sparrow.

Illinois Beach South Unit/Beach & Oak Trails (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.)

Canada Geese (62 near the resort)
Dunlin (1)
Crows (22)
LAPLAND LONGSPUR (1, a very good look for a change)

BALD EAGLE (1-AD in a tree along the main road)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (2), Blue Jays & Winter Wren (1)

Techny North Of Willow (2-2:25 p.m.)

D.C.Cormorant (3)
Great Blue Heron (1) & Great Egret (1)
Wood Duck (1-PR), Mallard (78) & Gadwall (6)
BALD EAGLE (1-AD seen very well at close range)
Killdeer (11) & Dunlin (2)
Kingfisher (H-1)

Birds-Of-The-Day will be a 3 way tie between 3 species that like to
walk on beaches & mudflats
which are Snow Buntings, Lapland Longspur & the Pipit.
Runner-Up to the very regal looking Bald Eagle at Techny North.

License Plate Of The Day to one from Alabama seen on the drive home.
