10/19 - New Haven - Lighthouse Point Park Hawkwatch - 99 migrating raptors
counted:
1 Turkey Vulture, 3 Osprey, 19 Northern Harriers (among them 4 Adult Male
"Grey Ghosts"), 3 Red-tailed Hawks, 1 immature Bald Eagle, 37 Sharp-shinned
Hawks, 21 Cooper's Hawks, 2 American Kestrels, 7 Merlins, 1 Peregrine
Falcon, and 4 Unidentified Accipiters.
It was Harrier Day with 10 streaming through in one hour.
Some radically under-counted small migrants (blue sky early in the day:
26 Brant, 11 American Pipits including a flock of 8 that stayed for a time
on the ground near us, 17 Unidentified Shore Birds, 222 Canada Geese, 760
Red-winged Blackbirds, 60 Blue Jays, 8 Double-crested Cormorants, 435
American Robins, 86 Cedar Waxwings, 145 Finch sp., 46 Purple Finches, 53
American Goldfinches, 5 Common Grackles, 9 Tree Swallows, 1 probable *Cave
Swallow, *50 Brown-headed Cowbirds, 108 House Finches, and on three
occasions there were Eastern Bluebirds heard but not seen.
In the park were the usual suspects, including a plethora of Eastern
Phoebes, and a smallish Bat.
