Date: 10/11/18 10:21 am From: Bird observations from western New York <geneseebirds-l...> Subject: [GeneseeBirds-L] Jaegers
I scanned the lake from Parking Area 4 at Hamlin Beach State Park from 10:40 - 12:30 today. There was little movement at this late hour of the morning but three PARASITIC JAEGERS did fly past going west to east.
At 10:50 a light phase bird put on a nice show harassing a Herring Gull. At 11:03 an intermediate phase bird flew by on a direct path ignoring the gulls in the area. And at 11:46 a dark phase bird flew by and harassed a half dozen gulls as it moved east.
There were fair numbers of Common and Red-Throated Loons on the lake and flying by. The vast majority were all heading west but a few Common Loons were moving east.
