I spent the warm morning birding around this south Columbus Park, finding a
steady trickle of migrants. I stopped at Heron Pond, Elk Run, the
Confluence area, and the Alum Creek Bikepath up to the borrow pits. Water
levels, unsurprisingly, were high, so waterbirds were scarce, but landbirds
were in decent numbers. Notables included:

Vultures - 55+ Turkey Vultures and 1 Black Vulture were scattered between 2
roosts - one at Heron Pond, another at the Confluence area
BaldEagle - 1 juvenile was flying down Big Walnut Creek at Elk Run Park
Yellowlegs - yes I had 1 shorebird other than a Killdeer - a Greater
Yellowlegs at Heron Pond
Woodpeckers - still many Flickers and Sapsuckers passing through - had them
at multiple sites
BrownCreepers - one was singing along the Confluence Trail near the borrow
pits
Flycatchers - not a one
Swallows - none here, but had a few Rough-wings on the drive home
Vireos - Blue-headed at several spots
Kinglets - Ruby-cronws in many spots, but only 1 pair of Golden-crowns
(near the Borrow Pits)
Thrushes - 1 Swainsons at the Confluence area
Mimids - had single Catbirds at 2 areas
Warblers - best was an Orange-crowned along the bike path north of Heron
Pond, but also had Nashvilles, Tennessees, Magnolias, Black-thr.Greens,
Black-thr.Blue (female at the Confluence area), Bay-breasted,
Yellow-rumped, and ComYellowthroat
Buntings, grosbeaks - 4 Indigo Buntings were in the weedfield at Elk Run
Park; another was singing (!) at Heron Pond
Sparrows - small Chipping or White-throated Sparrow flocks were at several
areas; a Lincoln's Sparrow was in the weefield at Elk Run Park
Blackbirds - small groups of redwings and grackles were at many areas
