Subject: [NEBirds] Fall Migrant Arrivals- Mercer Woods/Glacier Creek Preserve
This afternoon's activity on my property was highly representative of expectant species during early October in eastern NE.
The raptors were all migrant flyovers and most of the thrush/mimid species were enjoying a snack of Persimmons (yes, you can grow persimmon trees in Nebraska).

Yesterday afternoon at Glacier Creek Preserve (Omaha) several SEDGE WRENS were mostly audible.  Twenty-four (24) individuals were counted.  Other birds included eight (8) SPARROW SPP.
Yesterday 10/05) on Mercer Woods property three (3) HERMIT THRUSH were observed.  This comes only a couple days after a SWAINSON'S THRUSH sighting on October 3rd.  An OVEBIRD was also spotted skulking through the property that afternoon.
On Thursday (10/04) a l V formation of up to eight (8) GREAT EGRETS was sighted above Indian Creek Nursery around 6:00pm.  A rather strange occurrence for Midtown Omaha.
The first YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER of the season was observed on September 29th at Mercer Woods.
As for Hummingbirds, which everyone appears to be obsessed with at this point; no hummers have been observed on the property since the last week of September.

Good birding.
