A single late COMMON NIGHTHAWK aka BULLBAT flew past our house at dusk heading due west. A Red-breasted Nuthatch has been in the yard for several days, yesterday it was very busy extracting pine nuts from a white pine and caching them in a neighbor's yard.
Yesterday morning on the C and O canal between Riley's Lock and Violette's Lock, an immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was about to fly across the flooded Potomac, did a 180 and perched in a large tree on the Maryland bank - considering its options perhaps???
