Subject: [VA-bird] Theodore Roosevelt Island Bird Walk 09/30/2018
Following is the tally from the ASNV-sponsored September 30 bird walk at Theodore Roosevelt Island, which identified approximately 19 species and included five participants. Highlights included sightings of a Red-shouldered Hawk, adroitly manipulating a stick in its bill for purposes unknown; a Swainson's Thrush; a Northern Parula; and a plucky Carolina Wren facing off with a Gray Catbird (the wren won). Regrettably, the walk did not include the Swamp Trail which was closed due to earlier flooding.
