Following is the tally from the September 28 bird walk at Riverbend Park, which identified approximately 41 species and included five participants. Highlights included sightings of myriad thrush, hawks, and, among the warblers, Common Yellowthroats, a Northern Parula, and a Black-throated Blue. And with the fine weather, cardinals and jays alike were "out the wazoo." Today's walk focused on the Conn's Farm Meadow, with a brief round-trip hike to and from the park Visitors' Center.
The next walk will meet at 8:00 a.m. on Friday October 12th (rain or shine), in the parking lot at the Riverbend Park Visitors' Center; please contact Riverbend Park on 703-759-9018 to register. Participants should be prepared to walk about 2 miles in comfortable, closed-toed shoes. There likely will be gentle uphill and downhill stretches on slightly uneven terrain.
