Decided to stay close to home today to do some birding and was not disappointed.
Went over to Kennedy Park to mainly check the fennel area along the river (near the boat launch area) and had some warblers and flycatchers and other birds.
Ebird list: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S48277922 Tide was high, so not many shorebirds, but the VIRGINIA RAILS were quite vocal, a SORA or two called and heard a BLACK RAIL, give the kic-kic-kerr call just once. Waited to see if it would call again, but did not. It was heard along the paved trail, north of the boat launch, where the trail comes close to the marsh (where they’ve been heard in the past.)
Then walked over to the pond on the college campus, Ebird list: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S48278199 (on map on Ebird list, pond is close to the ‘Physical Science’ building.) Was really surprised to see how many migrant warblers – COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, WILSON’S, numerous YELLOW, ORANGE-CROWNED, and 1 BLACK-THROATED GRAY. Both WILLOW & PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, WARBLING & 1 CASSIN’S VIREO in addition to all the usual species. Considering it was late morning into early afternoon the place was hopping and a lot quieter, people-wise! Most of the tree species were seen from the paved road side of the pond.
