Subject: [CVBirds] Male Summer Tanager at Lake Solano Park (Solano Co.)
A male Summer Tanager (all-over red with large tanager bill) was seen
yesterday morning (Sept. 1) at Lake Solano Park on Pleasants Valley Road
just on the Solano County side of the bridge across Lake Solano (Putah
Creek) by Lois and Mike Wall. They reported the sighting to me with couple
of photos, one of which seems decisive. They were walking in the fee picnic
area to the east of the bridge (not the campground area to the west) along
the south-shore path, just before the bathrooms where there is some caution
tape blocking off the trail. The bird was first seen there around 9:30am in
a small tree near the shore of the lake. It then flew south into a big oak
tree where it was visible for a while. They saw the bird again around 10:00
along the path in a different tree but in the same area.
