Subject: [CVBirds] International Vulture Awareness Day / Turkey Vulture Migration
Greetings birders,

The following information is shared in celebration of International Vulture Awareness Day.

The Auburn Area Turkey Vulture Migration and Raptor Count will be conducted from September 15 to October 15 (9am-noon). As always, visitors are welcome.

The count averages close to 20,000 vultures in the 30-day count period but most will pass within a two-week peak flight window (approx. Sept. 23 to Oct. 7)). Vulture flights are best on days with northwest winds following a cold front.

Of particular interest this year will be the possible passing of 4 vultures with wing-tags and GPS transmitters. The "fab 4" were tagged last June and released from the upper coastal areas of Washington State. We are following their daily movements.
