Date: 8/31/18 7:56 am From: Fred Shaffer <glaucousgull...> Subject: [MDBirding] Willet, Wilson's Phalarope and Glossy Ibis at Swan Creek
Highlights from this morning at Swan Creek included one Western Willet, 1 Wilson's Phalarope and 4 Glossy Ibis. The Willet was originally in the north cell, seen foraging along the shore and in flight. The Willet eventually came very close to the shore near the flagpoles, allowing great views. The phalarope was distant, on the water directly across from the flagpoles (due east?). The bird foraged/floated on much deeper water then the yellowlegs and was largely by itself, spinning in the water. And, one Glossy Ibis was in the marsh and another three flew by, circled the marsh several times before flying to the east. Also of note were 2 Sanderlings in the south cell and a Peregrine Falcon repeatedly flying low over the water, raising havoc with the shorebirds and terns. Well over 400 Laughing Gulls were also present when I arrived. Good birding!
