This is the twenty-third survey for the 2018 season. Temperatures
ranged from 54 F to 72 F with smoky skies and calm winds.
Total species for the year remains at 137 with no new species today.
Total individuals counted today were 4,256 in 52 species. Last count
there were 3,985 in 51 species. There were 12 species of waterfowl.
SHOREBIRDS AND WADERS:
Shorebird species continue to migrate through in small numbers;
1 – Killdeer, 4- Spotted Sandpiper, 1 – Stilt Sandpiper, 12 –
Greater Yellowlegs, 8 - Wilson’s Phalaropes, 4 – Red-necked
Phalaropes, 2 – Long-billed Dowitches and 2 - Lesser Yellowlegs. All
ponds have more water in them this week than last and the only mudflat
that exist is in Duck’s Unlimited Pond 2.
BIRDS OF INTEREST:
Besides the shorebirds, there were 1,140 Mallards, 690 Lesser Scaup,
and 1,586 American Coot. One Sora was heard, and a Forester’s Tern
was seen flying over the sewage lagoon.
