This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for June 29.

A COMMON MERGANSER was on the LA River south of the Los Feliz crossing on June 24.

Farther downstream was a MEW GULL north of the Atlantic crossing in Vernon on June 24.

Unusual inland was a BLACK SKIMMER at Lake Balboa in the San Fernando Valley on June 25 and one at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia from June 24-27.

The NEOTROPIC CORMORANT at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas was seen in the cove adjacent to the RV park on June 23. This spot is by the northeast corner of the lake.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued in the Ballona area. It was last seen along Ballona Creek, upstream from the Lincoln crossing.

Two PURPLE MARTINS were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) on June 23.

An INDIGO BUNTING was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on June 27. It was on the west side of the lake north of the ranger's office and flagpole.
