Subject: [obol] Thanks for help in steller's jay behavior
Thanks to the 8 responses to my question on why steller's jay would
spread its wings on the ground in the same spot. Most thought it

was anting. The bird may lie in an area of high density of insects and
perform dust bathing-like movements. The insects secrete liquids

containing chemicals such as formic acid which can act as an
insecticide,miticide,fungicide,or bactericide. (from Wikipedia)

There are other reasons which include sunning.
