Subject: Lawrence County - Volant Strips and nearby

On the way home from Clarion County, I tried the Volant Strips. No Savannahs, Grasshoppers, Clay-coloreds or cranes, but other good birds made up over 30 species in an hour.

Tree Swallow - 12 - many family groups

Barn Swallow - 11 - same

Mourning Dove - 16 - same

Common Yellowthroat - 8

Swamp Sparrow - 1

Warbling Vireo - 1

Field Sparrow - 4

Bobolink - 19 - easily an undercount. At one point, a male flew off of a post and over a tiny patch of grass (literally a 50' square area), and 7 more males flew up from that tiny spot

Eastern Meadowlark - 6 - probably an undercount

Henslow's Sparrow - 7 - exact count

Killdeer - 2

I added one Savannah Sparrow on Old Ash road.

The lotus on No. 2 Mine Road smell out of this world right now, and are just beginning to bloom. Stop for the Swampie; stay for the smell!
