Field Trip: Nottingcook Forest-Great Hill
Date: Saturday, June 23, 7:30-10:30 am
Explore a portion of Nottingcook Forest with new Trip Leader, Amanda Kallenbach. Ascending the Great Hill portion of Bow's Nottingcook Forest requires some moderately steep climbing early on, but the summit vista (at 879 feet) is worth the effort. The forest hosts a wide variety of birds in spring and fall: thrushes, including bluebirds and hermits; woodpeckers; warblers; vireos; flycatchers; sparrows; ravens and hummingbirds have all been seen and heard. Pack bug spray and a hat. Rain cancels. Contact Amanda Kallenbach at <amanda.kallenbach...><mailto:<amanda.kallenbach...> or 503-964-1805.
Directions to trailhead: From Exit 1 off I-89, take Logging Hill Road south through Bow (Logging Hill Road becomes Bow Center Road and then Woodhill Road). Go left on South Bow Road (about a mile). The Nottingcook Forest kiosk is on the left, just east of the powerline cut.
