For the second year in a row there is a male Dickcissel singing along River Lane, the road through the Belleville wetlands in Wood County. It was neat the open pavilion-type structure with the red roof near the end of the road.
One of the resident Barn Owls in the nest in the old lockhouse treated me to a "southbound view of a northbound owl" as it briefly put its rear end out of the nesthole to defecate.
Also of note:
Wood Duck--1 hen with 5 midsized ducklings, plus 3 other birds that may have been from another brood. Green Heron--2 Belted Kingfisher--2 American Kestrel--1 Willow Flycatcher--2
At Belleville Lock and Dam:
Osprey--1 bird in each nest atop the power line towers, 1 in WV and 1 in OH. Killdeer--5 Herring Gull--1 Willow Flycatcher--2 Cliff Swallow--10 at least flying to and from the numerous nests on the dam
