A pair of Belted Kingfishers have a nest in a burrow across the slough near the easternmost end of the parking lot at Goleta Beach park.
This morning the two adults arrived back near the burrow, each with a fish. They remained near the burrow, calling with the fish in their mouths, for about 30 minutes before finally entering the burrow with the fish.
One possible reason I can imagine for this behavior is that the parents are trying to entice the young out of the nest. Other theories welcome.
The Little Blue Heron was foraging nearby.
