Just got back from Sinker Creek/Silver City. Went up yesterday afternoon (29 May) and camped at Sinker Creek. Birding at Sinker Creek was great! Birds of interest at Sinker Creek included: Lewis’s Woodpeckers, Bullock’s Orioles, Lazuli Buntings, Yellow-breasted Chats, Western Tanagers, Western Kingbirds, Yellow Warblers, Cedar Waxwings, California Quail, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Kestrels, Barn Swallows, an Olive-sided Flycatcher, and a pair of Plumbeous Vireos(?) collecting nesting material.
Along the gravel road to Silver City, both below and above Sinker Creek, also revealed Chukar (including a hen with a baker’s dozen chicks), Cassin’s Finches, a Meadowlark, and a Loggerhead Shrike, as well as Kestrels, a Red-tailed Hawk and a Turkey Vulture.
Silver City birds included: a pair of House Wrens taking nesting material into a birdhouse, Mountain Bluebirds, Violet-Green Swallows, Pine Siskins, a black-chinned and a Calliope Hummingbird, Yellow Warblers, Cedar Waxwings, a Hermit Thrush, and a Cassin’s Finch, as well as Robins and a Northern Flicker.
