Just a few random sightings:
Morton Arboretum on May 24th:
Yellow-throated Warbler in the Joy Path vicinity and Henslow's Sparrow in the super small prairie south/southeast of Sterling Pond. I've not had, nor heard of others having, these species in these specific locations at the Arb.
Evanston's Perkin's Woods on May 24th:
A Pine Warbler made a very short stop here, only stopping to sing twice, before apparently migrating onward.
Wilmette's Gillson Park on May 24th:
Locally rare here, 2 adult male Orchard Orioles were apparently singing against each other, from about 20 yards apart at the edge of the Lake. Maybe they were fighting over a good food area.
North Point Marina on May 25th:
Blue Grosbeak immature male continues! Saw him fly up to a short treetop and tried singing a few times. Crazy bird. Showed up from somewhere else at 5:45 am. Flew into the scrubby area west of the southeastern most parking lot at NPM. From there it continued into IBSP North unit.
Same thing with the Northern Mockingbird, showing up at 6:10 am, seen flying over this same parking lot, landed in some vegetation to the west, where I was able to get some photos, then continued flying into IBSP North. This seems likely the same bird reported from NPM nearly a week ago (and is the only Mockingbird eBird record for this site).
Ditto for the Carolina Wren, singing from the edge of this same parking lot during 6:05-6:15 am, before it went further west/southwest into IBSP North.
Illinois Beach S.P. on May 25th:
Besides the 3 rare species at NPM that ultimately moved into IBSP, new arrivals include 2 Henslow's Sparrows and a Sedge Wren in the area southeast and west of the Hawkwatch site, respectively.
Lyons Woods F.P. on May 25th:
Pair of Red-breasted Nuthatch, almost assuredly at the end of a breeding attempt. Young are/should out and about this weekend, if this nesting attempt succeeded. 2 Chestnut-sided Warblers on territory in the mature oak woodlot area. A Pine Warbler was singing as if on territory at the entrance pines back on May 16th, but wasn't heard during today's midday heat.
