Subject: Jerry Smith Park Flycatchers

Spectacular morning at the restored prairie park in south Kansas City, both weather-wise and bird-wise. Had just started down the trail when I heard the “free beer” call of an Alder Flycatcher from a tree right along the trail. A second flycatcher seem to answer him from a short distance away. A little further along heard a Blue Grosbeak singing loud and clear. About another 50 yards down the trail saw 2 Olive-sided Flycathers and heard their “quick free beer” calls. In the same general area had great looks at a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Other flycatchers included Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Wood Pewee and Great-crested. There were also scattered Yellow-billed Cuckoos calling around the park and Dickcissels and Indigo Buntings were heard or seen throughout the park. Full species list on Ebird.
