Subject: [Maine-birds] Bar Harbor- Canada geese and DCCO
The Canada geese will have been nest-sitting and guarding for average gestation plus average laying time days on May 17. Today at 11:45 I see a Double crested cormorant diving and cruising the fire-pond water near the little islet where the goose is sitting on her nest. The pond has been stocked in the past so there may be fish for the cormorant. Does anyone think it may be a threat to eggs or hatched goslings? The gander is patrolling without apparent panic. Last year 5 goslings were hatched successfully from this spot.
