Glad that Spring has finally chosen to take off its coat and stay awhile. I had 100+ species in Oglala Lakota and Bennett Counties today. Nothing rare, but it was nice to see long-shot species such as Black-necked Stilt (1), Caspian Tern (2), Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (1), and Eastern Meadowlark (4). LaCreek was birdy, but a special shout-out to Wakpamni Lake in SE Oglala Lakota Co. and its associated wetlands for being jam-packed with birds, including 15 species of shorebird.
Was great to spend the middle of the day with the Prairie Hills Audubon Society / Black Hills Group of Sierra Clubs-sponsored field trip to NWR. 72 species were observed during the visit.
