Brian Smith and I did the spring count at Fort Sheridan and Wadsworth today.. Highlight was a remarkable 28 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS at Fort Sheridan (!).. Other highlights included 18 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, 11 FIELD SPARROWS and 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS at Fort Sheridan, 6 SANDHILL CRANES at the two spots, and 3 BALD EAGLES at Wadsworth. It was a sparse warbler day (except for huge numbers of Palm Warblers) but the rest made up for it.
