Here's a more detailed report for Saturday up at the Lakes. Weather started off calm at Crane Prairie but wind and rain curtailed visibility so estimating Duck numbers was off. Most species listed below in no particular order:
Sandhill Crane 3 pairs Ring-billed Gull 11 Bonaparte's Gull 1 Common Goldeneye 4 Horned Grebe 1 full breeding plumage. Hooded Merganser many pairs. Common Merganser 10 Lesser Scaup Ring-necked Duck Double-crested Cormorant Yellow-headed Blackbird 10 Common Loon 2 Bald Eagle 2 American White Pelican 42
Bonaparte's Gull 70 counted individually, were loafing on the Water picking off flies. Both adults and 1st Winter Birds present. I've never encountered this many before in Central Oregon. The beach here, in front of spillway, was active with birds despite rain with c30 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 12 Brewers Blackbirds, 1 Chipping Sparrow, 1 Savannah Sparrow, 6 Mountain Bluebirds and 1 Gray Flycatcher behind the Dam. Close by in the woods was a singing Brown Creeper, White-headed Woodpecker, 1 Sapsucker sp and a calling Northern Goshawk.
Reservoir Camp Ground, last stop and still raining.
