Wompatuck SP, Plymouth, Massachusetts, US Apr 29, 2018 6:30 AM - 9:45 AM Protocol: Traveling 5.0 mile(s) Comments: Brookline Bird Club walk led by Eddie Giles. Morning started out with partly cloudy skies and temps in the 50s. Precipitation started to fall around 9:30 AM and the walk ended shortly thereafter. Quiet but enjoyable morning. Louisiana Waterthrush was not singing for us this this morning and we missed Ruffed Grouse as well.
Mallard 2 Flyovers Double-crested Cormorant 16 Flyovers Turkey Vulture 2 Broad-winged Hawk 1 Herring Gull 1 Flyover Mourning Dove 6 Barred Owl (Northern) 2 Silent pair perched together in a white pine at a distance of about 30 feet away. Alerted to their presence by the alarm calls of a gray squirrel. In general vicinity of pair observed on 4/22 and presumed to be the same birds. (Don't bother asking.) Red-bellied Woodpecker 3 Hairy Woodpecker (Eastern) 3 Eastern Phoebe 3 Blue Jay 14 Including one raucous flock of 10 birds. Fish Crow 3 Black-capped Chickadee 12 Tufted Titmouse 8 White-breasted Nuthatch (Eastern) 4 Winter Wren 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 12 American Robin 6 Ovenbird 4 Northern Waterthrush 1 'Rare' looks at a perched, singing male.
