I was up there late yesterday afternoon, and there was a huge midge hatch by the V ponds and near a couple other wet areas. Look for small birds to be feeding low in wet wooded areas. Swallows will probably be concentrated over ponds and marshes. THe Black-necked Stilt was hanging out on the far edge of the pond on Patton Road, southeast of the CTH V ponds. Sharing the pond with Greater & Lesser Yellowlegs and Bonaparte Gulls. CTH V ponds had some Wilson's Snipe feeding in the open, a great look at an American Bittern right up by the road, and various ducks including my FOY Ruddies. A few Buffleheads still hanging around. Plenty of other good stuff, too.
Traipsed through Brooklyn SWA and almost no insects. With heavy migration forecasted for Sunday night, what are they going to eat?
