Peg & Rob McIntire and I birded the country roads northeast of Rapid City, and then to Bear Butte Lake to find the Caspian terns on Saturday April 21.
We have a pleasant morning, and saw many expected species, plus several really good looks at Loggerhead Shrikes. On Cottonwood Road north of Bear Butte, we found a Swainson's Hawk. Peg got a good photo.
We did see Caspian terns, a dc cormorant, and many waterfowl, along with a sighting of the Fondy's from Whitewood! We did not find avocets, however.
