A beautiful weather day at Moraine State Park with 55 species of birds. Virginia McQuown and I hiked many enjoyable miles throughout the park. Many FOSs for birds, frogs and turtles too. Spicebush was blooming and it finally felt like Spring!

Waterfowl included:

Wood Duck
American Wigeon
Blue-winged Teal
N Shoveler
Bufflehead
Ring-necked Duck
Hooded Mergansers
Red-breasted Mergansers (large rafts in the 100s)
Ruddy Duck
Common Loon 2
Pied-billed Grebe
Horned Grebe

There were large rafts of DC Cormorants

Bald Eagle - 3 (1 adult)
Broad-winged Hawk
Osprey

Bonaparte’s Gulls - many in breeding plumage

Songbird highlights:

Wood Thrush (not a Hermit!)
Golden-crowned Kinglet - everywhere
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Pine Warbler 2
E Towhee many
Rusty Blackbird 1
Purple Finch 1

Plus the usual suspects. Who says Friday the 13th is unlucky?
