4/11 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10am-1PM, mid-tide
receding, 45-50F, sunny.
Very busy at the center today, with both school visits and many waterfowl
on the marsh.

At 10am 2 ospreys were on the nest; the male then flew off . Male returned
at 10:11am, calling. Both the male and female osprey had their wings in a
mantling position-lowered and spread out. Both ospreys were in the area,
and fending off a second pair of ospreys that returned continually to that
nest site. Possibly the second set of ospreys are youngsters from previous
On the marsh- 3 Tree swallows soaring, 151 Brant, 2 Canada Geese, 8 Mute
Swans, 2 Great Egrets, 4 Greater Yellowlegs, 12 Northern shovelers, 5 Red
breasted mergansers, 6 Green winged teal, 8 Gadwalls, 2 American Wigeons,
6 American black ducks, Herring & ring billed gulls along with one Great
black backed gull.
On the grounds -1 White throated sparrow, many Common grackles, Red winged
blackbirds, 1 starling, 2 American crows, 4 Mourning doves, 2 house
