High numbers of birds today up at the high Lakes with swarms of Swallows, mostly Trees and Violet greens, too many to put a number on. Thousands of Lesser Scaup present on Davis and Crane Prairie. Three Flocks of Dunlin moving West low over Wickiup numbered c450 birds. A raft of Common Loon had Two Herring Gulls in attendance, and several Horned Grebe sported their breeding colors. Highlights below:
Barrow's Goldeneye 7 Common Goldeneye 7 Horned Grebe 2 Common Merganser 11 Hooded Merganser 2
Davis Lake, a short visit to Lava Flow Campground
Lesser Scaup 1000's visible through 180 degree. Some distant flocks included Canvasbacks.
Rock Creek, Crane Prairie Reservoir
Greater Scaup 32 at least, probably more in with Lesser Scaup. Lesser Scaup 3000 conservatively. Ring-necked Duck c15 Common Goldeneye 25+ Barrow's Goldeneye 12 Common Merganser 98+ Hooded Merganser 2 Ruddy Duck c300 Wood Duck 4 Buffleheads Common Loon 2 American Coot c1000 Double-crested Cormorant 18 Ring-billed Gull 12+ Bald Eagle 8+ Tree and Violet-green Swallows 1000's Yellow-rumped Warbler 1 the only One all day, not the best conditions for passerines.
