Mark and I went up to Trace Ridge in the Pisgah Forest at North Mills River (Henderson County) and heard our first Whip-poor-will of the year. That's the earliest I've gotten them, but it was a full moon and that has been pretty much a slam dunk spot for the last few years at least. I recorded them (on ebird now) with one recording including a bird that landed on the road next to the car and was giving the quirt call. Marilyn
