Subject: [birders] Hundreds of ducks on Portage Lake
This morning there have been several very large flocks of ducks on
Portage Lake- on the Washtenaw/Livingston line- with more arriving by
the minute. Along with single Common Loon the species include Canvas
Backs, Redheads, Common and Red Breasted Mergs, Greater and Lesser
Scaups, Buffleheads, American Coots, Black Ducks, Mallards and several
grebes. The total earlier was probably in excess of 1,000 although it
appears to be thinning out at 9:30,

They have been very skittish and tend to move around quite a bit. the
vast majority are now congregated at the south end of the lake out in
front of the Portage Yacht Club and near the bridge over the entrance
into Little Portage.
