John your bird is early. It is noted in New Jersey's breeding bird atlas;
"Birds of New Jersey"(1999), Walsh,Elia,Kane & Halliwell', the first "
...Barn Swallows arrive in NJ the last few days of March". It goes on to
say most northbounders come thru in late April. We had one at Spruce Run
Reservoir a few years back on 3 April 2016. There may be other sightings
from the now infamous Hunterdon County Private Bird Club I am unaware of.
