Western Meadowlarks were singing in the Arkansas River Valley south of Kibler this morning. I heard them at West-Ark Sod on Westville Road, in the big fields along Crawford Road, then on Thornhill Road near the UA Vegetable Research Station south of Kibler (this is a big loop). It was calm and sunny. I heard at least 8-10 singing or calling. Never heard a singing Eastern Meadowlark. I managed to photograph a few silent birds foraging in short grass along Thornhill. All of these birds had the yellow malar and spotted flanks typical of Western Meadowlarks.
