Four birders attended the Northern Virginia Bird Club trip to Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge this morning. As it turns out the park was actually closed, even though the gate was open, due to a lack of power and lots of wind debris. Nevertheless, the birding guerillas put together a decent list before being expelled by the authorities. Of note was the almost total dewatering of Powell's Creek due to a couple of days of high NW winds. Bird highlights were six woodpecker species, including red headed woodpecker, canvasback, ring-necked duck, and cedar waxwing. The complete list is below,
