Hi, all.

Ruddy duck no.s at the Lake Monticello Golf Course Pond have gone up from
the single digits to 24. The golf course also proved a great place to view
a 1-minute rainbow. On Lake Monticello itself there were two horned grebes
(for whatever reason these don't appear to winter on the lake), a few
pied-billeds, 20 American coots (a nice high count given that this isn't a
deep freeze, and this species had left the lake after the bomb cyclone in
January), 2 hooded mergansers (wintering individuals have left Fluvanna for
the season), and 2 buffleheads (another species whose wintering population
has largely left the county.) A bonus was a truly sublime sunset.

Great birding,
