After dropping off some Willamette Valley Birding Trail brochures in McMinnville on my way up to Portland this afternoon, I detoured up the Scoggins Valley to check out Henry Hagg Lake (Site T5 on the Tualatin Loop of the trail, just west of Gaston which might be my favorite town in Washington County).
A hundred or so TREE SWALLOWS were foraging low over the reservoir as light snow was falling. I wondered how they could pick out the insects amid the snowflakes.
A WESTERN GREBE was on a small pond just below the sawmill.
